I hope all is well with everyone today. I wanted to encourage everyone with this amazing scripture that speaks to our hearts as women. Don't we worry constantly about our lives, our children, our finances and our relationships...and that is just the tip of the iceberg. God desires for us not to be women controlled by worrying. Which incidentally is the lesson I'm still learning after many years.

Golden Globes 2012 Color Trends.

Amber Riley, Dianna Agron and Reese Witherspoon all wore red dresses. Reese’s was by Zac Posen, Dianna’s by Giles and Amber’s Badgley Mischka.

Hello everyone, I'm just curious to find out if any of you have peeked at some of the red carpet fashions from the Golden Globes, held Sunday evening. Well the ladies were definitely not holding back when it came to color.

One of my favorite colored dresses of the night was Viola Davis’s plum gown by Emilio Pucci. I'm loving that dramatic leg slit. So refined and right for an event such as this. I'll say plum is a color I'm willing to experiment
with this year.

Canary yellow is lovely but not for the faint of heart.

I also loved Octavia Spencer’s soft lilac Tadashi Shoji dress:

she was nothing short of fabulous how she carried that dress, so regal indeed.

Last and by no means least blue in all it's glorious shades. From velvet to feathers, these ladies struck us with fabulous textures...and not to be left out by way of special mention these two black and white dresses were just fierce.

Kate Winslet was beautiful in black and white Jenny Packham dress, Claire Danes took a fashion risk with her open back black and white J Mendel dress.

What a glorious room...I love the gold accents and the warm wooden floor, both bring warmth to the this white dressing room. The mirrored closet doors are just divine and clever to capture all the sunlight that will drift through the windows. What I wouldn't give to transport this room to my home.

Hello and a Happy Monday to everyone. First let me say thank you to all my Lovelies for the Birthday wishes. You ladies sure know how to make a girl feel special. Thanks again.

Now onto what's capturing my attention big time with the past few weeks of holiday parties, family lunches and dinners. Bar carts!!!! So divine and so lovely as part of your decor for celebrations or just plain hospitality. Now with young children like myself, a kid friendly bar cart would be order of the day...filled with bottles of cider, lemonades, ginger ales and water. Sorry folks no liquor in my house except Champagne and fruit wines which I adore as you already know.

As I reflect on the year 2011, I can sum it up in one word 'gratitude'. At the beginning of the year I made it my goal to keep a gratitude journal as some of you may remember and it has taught me so much. Now as I open a new journal to ready myself for 2012, I will be keeping a dream journal this year. but I have feeling I will be still recording how thankful I am to God for all he has done {and will continue to do} in my life thus far.

So for today and tomorrow I'll be tucking myself away from hubby and the kids to journal goals, plans, prayers, and dreams. I have been doing this for sometime now so making this time happen is key for me. Here are a few ideas for journalling in the coming year.

Dreams: You can write a lot about the dreams that you remember you had in the past, be it good or bad. A good idea is to try and relate such dreams to your real life.

Thanking God: Thank God for whatever he has given you and for keeping you and your family safe. You can even note down a personalized prayer that you have made. Also record what you are learning from the Bible day to day as inspiration.

Future Goals: Jot down your future goals and also mention the steps as to how you are planning to achieve them. The goals can be academic, personal, or even professional.

Learning from Mistakes: Include in your scrapbook or blog the mistakes you had made in the past which are affecting you even at present. Mention what you learned from those mistakes.

Overcoming Fears and Building Confidence: It is fine if you even mention what you fear most in life. Think of the steps that you would take to build your self-confidence and overcome the fears.

Composing a Song: Think about the lyrics, give a tune, and compose a song. You will really feel good about yourself that you have expressed your feeling in the form of a song.

Best and Worst Moments in Life: Everyone has his best and worst moments in life. You can include the best moment that you will always want to relive and the worst moment that you wished never had come in your life.

All about your Favorites: You can write all about your favorites which include cuisine, superhero, musician, hobby, and any other thing that you like the most.

Places You Like the Most: You can mention places that you like to go to very often, and even about locations that you would like to visit in the future.

Quotes: To keep you motivated, you can note down some very inspirational quotes by successful people.

Skills to Develop: You can include the skills and capabilities that you would like to have, such as playing the guitar, managing people, handling bad situations in life, and several others.

These are just a few ideas but you can write about whatever is on your heart.

Now this Christmas I'll be wearing my all time favorite of Vanilla perfume oil by The Body Shop. I started wearing Vanilla as a young woman and I have loved it ever since. I love how this natural scent lingers around me and makes me think of the holidays. My hubby gave me 'Gorgeous' by Victoria's Secret this Christmas and I'm loving it.

Wanna have some fun this holiday? Draw a fir tree on the wall and put some balls on it – and TaDa!!! Here’s your tree, it’s funny, whimsical and there are no problems with it! Trust when I say I'd be willing to try this if I had the wall space...LOL.

This year we are recycling our old pine tree from last year, so Hubby sprayed our brown tree gold and it looks divine. I'll take pics when I'm done with it everyone. Still making my lists and shopping for lovely specialty foods and wine as well. What about you, have you finished your shopping and decorating??? I also found these great flower lights at a little Chinese store today to decorate my work space. I'm simply crushing on anything corny and whimsical this holiday season.

As I'm currently with the flu and this terrible cough, I am cozy in my bed with a big mug of chicken noodle soup. The weather here doesn't help either as it's also very rainy, so I happily tucked away with some of my favorite holiday books, as they always serve to put me in the holiday spirit and keep me happy through this retched cold. Hello Everyone,

So sorry I have been missing for a while. I have been spending time with loved ones and family celebrating everything from birthdays, to baby showers. So it seems these last few days I have been constantly in the kitchen churning out delicious food for everyone to enjoy.

I am a bit tired but happy and a little sad at having lost a friend to cancer. I won't elaborate just yet as I still need some time to accept she is gone too soon.

I will be busy again soon at work and at home, with the holidays fast approaching and Hubby and I are planning a party for my son's birthday. Our Christmas baby will be turning 8 and has made it quite clear he would like to have a party. Well its beginning to look a lot like the Christmas, and I'm no where near completion of decorating the house. But today I do have some genius inspiration to share with you from the annals of my Pinterest boards, that's pretty and budget friendly. Above, I'm so swooning over this twig candle holder that does double duty, offering a spot to hang pretty necklaces, cuffs and a few small Christmas ornaments. I usually take a bit of Christmas into every room of my home, so I'm loving this for my vanity, which works beautifully during the holidays and year round.

Well here I am again posting about my love of sparkle, but with a twist. I would love to share about a few of the lovely women bloggers I've been fortunate to meet over the last month or so, and who in my humble opinion sparkle from the inside out.

Firstly I would like to introduce you Nan @ LBD Dairies.com, she is a scream and probably one of the only blogs I read and laugh out loud to literally. Nan will share her heart and her life with you in a way that makes you feel like she is someone you've known all your life. Thank you so much Nan for being a source of inspiration and encouragement to me through your blog.

Secondly, affectionately known as Mrs. Pancakes @ Adventures of Team Pancakes. As Mrs. Pancakes would say "we never know what God has planned for our lives" and her blog is the same, you never know what she'll share about next, but she keeps me coming back for more.

Thirdly, Fashion,Art and other Fancies, I just adore her and her eye for beauty. I believe she has taught me the art of appreciating not just the finer things in life but the necessary as well. I can only hope to one day be as classy and sure of myself like she is, and one day stand on her doorstep in Paris to give her a big hug.

Tea this Afternoon: Blueberry Lemon Scones.

I'm so swooning over these scones, I think I'll be trying these babies out...wish me luck.

Blueberry Lemon Scones Recipe

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 Tbsp sugar 
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
 1/2 cup (1/4 lb) butter, cut into pieces
grated zest of a lemon
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 large egg 
1 cup fresh or frozen (don’t thaw them) blueberries

Preheat the oven to 400F. In a large bowl, blend the flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the butter and lemon zest and blend until the mixture is crumbly, with some pieces of butter the size of a pea.
In a small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg. Add to the flour mixture and stir a few strokes; add the blueberries and stir just until combined. Pat out the dough about an inch thick and cut into shapes with a cutter, glass rim or knife. Place an inch or so apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden. Makes about a dozen scones, depending on their size.

For tender scones, ensure your butter is cold and is blended in without incorporating it completely; there should be some lumps left the size of a pea. Orange zest could be used in place of the lemon, or other berries in place of the blueberries. If they are frozen, keep them that way – thawed berries release their juice, turning your dough purple and making it too wet to pat out properly.

Hello Everyone, I am swooning over all the sparkle I'm seeing for the up and coming holiday season. Doesn't the first image make you catch your breathe?? How will you sparkle this holiday season?? I am currently on the lookout for some sparkle for my own home decor as well, like these gorgeous throw cushions, DIY of course.

I have been checking out some lovely brooches, scarves, cardis and hair clips to dress up some of last year's outfits as I doubt very much I'll be able to afford new clothing, times are tough at the moment. Happy Sunday everyone. I hope everyone is having a relaxing day. Today I'm having some family over to share a meal and catch up on the many years we have not seen each other. My cousin and I have not seen each other in almost 27 years. So I'm serving up some of my fave comfort foods for dinner. I'll set up a buffet so everyone can help themselves, then I'll be able to spend much needed time with her. When did you start blogging and why?

I started blogging in form of writing letters to my son about six years ago. It moved on to sharing creative DIY craft idea's, tutorials and recipes with my family more recently (a little over a year ago). It's my escape, I love being amongst craft addicts, finding new idea's, I smile at a blogger's vision, photography style, recipes, and simply just knowing that there are so many creative and artsy bloggers to pull inspiration from. Blogging excites me, my hubs to be recently said I need a home blog schedule, haahaa, meaning I should have blog off days.. It's truly one of my favourite past times.."I can't stop crafting......"

How did your passion for photography start?

I started loving photography I think about 10 or 11years old, more so fashion photography from magazines, pamphlets and clippings. I was really drawn to war photography back in Ghana where I sought refuge with my family after leaving Liberia during the civil war. I admired how much soul was in the pictures I saw, how it moved you, the composition, the editing, I fell in love with all the little things that I don't think people take the time to notice in a photograph.. I became more curios over time and have remained a true photography lover.. I recently learned how to develop film and now have the sense of cool factor (lol) feeling..

Tell us a little about your passion for all things artsy and crafty?

I love to craft. I love to add my own spin and twists to things to make them ME.. I create a lot for my family and friends but mostly for my children and around the house. I love the joy I get when I can make something for someone exactly or beyond what they imagined and have them be simply happy. I love having the children stand out with things I make them for school or around the house..

Most of all, I LOVE the feeling of a bride or someone celebrating something. I get so much from all the intricate details and time I put into decorating, or working on a project for them to enhance a day and make it just that much more special for them..

My favorite crafting projects usually tend to be weddings.. There's So much love and emotion and nothing brings me more joy then seeing the bride and groom completely in awe and excited to show off their vision on their special day..

I love capturing moments.. I have BOXES filled with photo's.. I love pulling them out, reminding people of a moment they forgot about, I love to see my children as they grow, the changes, the love that blooms, just everything about a beautiful memory forever captured moves me.

I'm OBSESSED with Shingai Shoniwa, she's the lead singer from the Noisettes. She's AMAZINGLY talented, her voice, HER STYLE! I want to kidnap her, her closet and her hair.. lol. She just reminds me of me in another lifetime.
I love her personality, how confident she is and how she's built upon nothing into becoming all that she is today... her story is unique and it really inspires me.

Secondly congratulations to my work colleague Caroline on her recent nuptials to the very handsome Craig. I wish them both many years of bliss.

Aren't they the cutest together??? I love happy endings.

Also Happy Birthday greetings to my now 4 year old daughter "Layla" which means "dark beauty" in Arabic/African. She has the most independent nature, an inquiring mind, a loving touch and she gives the best hugs. I feel incredibly fortunate to have a daughter. I remember when I first held her marvelling at how beautiful she was and wondering if I was good enough to be her mother. Now I look forward to early Saturday mornings when she crawls into my bed and gently wakes me to watch Tinker Bell or Dora The Explorer, this is our time, to paint our toes and giggle about absolutely nothing. These days she has taken to holding my hand a little longer before she goes to her preschool class...as I reassure her to be brave and I let her go, I watch her walk away and realize one day soon she'll step into the world on her own..." and a tear slips down my cheek."

Did I also happen to mention I have an up and coming wedding to attend. Well I have been in a quandary trying to figure out what I will wear. Well I had pinned this dress sometime ago to my Pinterest Board "Fashion Forward". Anyway to make a long story short, I'm currently getting a (Teal) copy made, from a delightful friend who is a seamstress. Trust me when I say, she can copy any style I throw her way. I personally think every girl should have a seamstress with mad skills. So watch out Chanel Iman, step aside. I'll be sure to take some fashion pics for you all to see.

It’s so cute and cheeky in a sophisticated, glam sort of way.

Don't you love sequins?? I do and and what better way to start the week. I am sure we girls love a bit of sparkle in our wardrobes. I couldn't help but notice that most designers and clothing icons are adding glam pieces to there collections and there is so much to choose from. Well for me, I can only do sequins in small doses like a clutch, top or a shoe. But give me time, maybe for the approaching

I started blogging when I still had my EvaForeva etsy shop and thought it would give me a new outlet to reach customers and make new friends. The Plank Pose.

Some of you might be familiar with the plank pose. The plank is a great exercise to retrain your ab muscles to work more efficiently. Yes, I can testify its killer, but very effective. This is just one of my personal trainer's fave moves, which pretty much leaves me wasted after just two minutes.

If you’re wondering how balancing on your elbows and toes will help with your ab and stomach muscles you should give the plank a try. The weight of your body and gravity will pull the middle of your body towards the ground, and your back will have the tendency to sag and arch.

To prevent this you must use your ab and stomach muscles and pull in your belly button to keep your body in good alignment.

If you are a beginner like me, you may notice that your body starts to shake terribly, after a few seconds of holding the plank position. This is simply due to a lack of coordination and strength in your core muscles. Anyway I'm hoping after doing the famous plank pose, I'll look something like the image below and if I can do that...it would have been worth every aching second. Hey a girl can dream can't she....LOL.

Sometimes its hard to trust God when facing particular challenges in ones life. Today I am reminded that it is more important to know God's character than to ask why. Why God, why me? The Word of God serves as a reminder and an encouragement, for me not to doubt God or question why he allows certain obstacles in exist in my life. Like difficult family and work relationships, illnesses and death of a loved one. Today I will hold my heart high as I remain righteous, blameless and conduct myself always in a manner worthy of the Gospel. Ultimately it 's my desire to please God, no one else.

OK, so I'm not eating any cupcakes for the next 9 weeks. But a girl can dream so here is a great recipe I found via Bakers Royale. I am managing my sweet tooth with yogurts and cereal bars, and I'm also not craving dairy as much as I thought I would. Anyway beach workout again tomorrow morning and I'm actually looking forward to it. Cheers and have great weekend.

Tres Leches Cupcakes

Makes 14-16 cupcakes

Tres Leches Cupcake

Cupcake portion adapted from Foodnetwork.com

Preparation: Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line cupcake wells with paper liner.

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
3 eggs, separated
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 cup lightly toasted flaked coconut (Mounds or Angel Flake brand), optional for garnishing the frosting

Instructions:

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy on medium speed. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing until combined and all the yellow disappears. Add the vanilla, mix to combine. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Alternately add the dry mixture with the buttermilk to the creamed butter beginning and ending with the flour.
In a small bowl, beat the egg whites on high speed until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into cake batter.
Fill paper-linyed wells 3/4 full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Transfer cupcakes to wire rack and set aside.
Stir together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and the coconut milk. Use a meat injector needle to inject cupcakes all over with about 1/2 to 3/4-ounce of the mixture. Alternatel, poke several holes in the top of cupcakes with a wooden skewer and then pour the milk mixture over each cupcake while they are still warm, filling each hole. Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight before frosting.
Save lightly toasted flaked coconut for garnishing cupcakes once frosted.

Dulce de Leche Buttercream Frosting

5 large egg whites
11/2 cup sugar
4 sticks unsalted butter, diced and softened
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2-1 cup of dulce de leche, room temperature (click here for a homemade recipe with a step-by-step pictorial instructions)

Instructions:

Combine egg whites and sugar in a bowl placed over simmering water. Bring mixture to 150 degrees F while whisking constantly.
Transfer mixture to stand mixer bowl, fitted with a whisk attachment and beat on medium speed until mixture cools and doubles in volume.
Add butter in one piece at a time, mixing to incorporate after each addition. Add salt and vanilla and mix to combine. Add dulce de leche and mix to combine.

*NOTE: The consistency of the dulce de leche frosting will depend on how much or or how little you add of the dulce de leche sauce. I’ve written the recipe as 1/2 cup – 1 cup to account for varying ducle de leche consistency that can run on the thinner side when purchased from the store versus making a homemade version that is usually thicker. I recommend starting with 1/2 cup and mix to combine then taste and add more if needed.

Assembly

1. Frost cooled cupcakes with dulce de leche buttercream and either sprinkle lightly toasted flaked coconut on top or dust with grated chocolate.

As summer draws to an end, I've been looking for every opportunity to wear my new swimsuits. Not just because of my exercise program, but isn't that what summers are for. Being 40 plus, I've now hung up my bikinis from my yesterdays and now want a more age appropriate look for my lounging at the beach and by the pool. Who am I kidding!!!!! Yes; a swimsuit that holds all of these curves in, something sturdy and not at the sight of a huge wave leave my body and go running for cover. You laugh but I'm serious, a girl my age can't afford to look like I'm trying to be twenty... that ship has sailed.

As the weekend draws near, my social calendar has suddenly been filled with end of summer barbeques and of course pool parties masked as kids pool parties. So here are a few lovely swimsuit cover ups that I could look stylish yet modest in while chasing my kids around the pool.

I'm really loving these cover ups very much. What about you???? I'm also craving a Pina Colada right about now, and nothing says end the summer like a big chilled, tall glass of Pina Colada. (without the RUM, of course). Needless to sat this is no where near being on my meal plan for the next 12 weeks. So it looks as though I'll have to stop counting calories when it comes to the coconut milk, I'll be drinking in large quantities.

Well, I'm into my third week of my weight loss exercise program and I'm trying to eat healthier. This weekend my beach workout was killer, as I couldn't move afterwards. I tried washing my hair and just to raise my arms was darn near impossible. Hubby has been my biggest supporter and my son says he loves me just the way I am, no exercise required. Today I'm pondering family gatherings, a big table with platters of fresh food, laughter and good conversation in a relaxed and comfy atmosphere. But I have nothing planned so I'll just go with the flow.

The weekend so far is unplanned, except for an exercise session on the beach Saturday morning and church on Sunday. I am hoping for a relaxed weekend and a maybe a small family gathering, who am I kidding, my family ain't small and this will be a huge undertaking. I can do potluck, and try my hand at this lovely beet cake I found over at Natalie @ Blossoming Visions.

Isn't this just the cutest cake and it looks easy enough and delicious as well, whose with me??? ;)

As promised here are some pics from my weekend. I am grateful to my loving husband for the little getaway we had this pass weekend. He planned for us to watch the sunrise together Saturday morning, as we spent time in prayer and Bible study. Then we went off to a lovely resort for some much needed rest and relaxation. Needless to say the entire time together was a blessing. I'm such a lucky girl to have such an incredible man of God in my life. Just between us girls, there is nothing hotter than a man who loves God and desires to put what he reads into practice. Seriously!!!

I have been recently obsessed with Kareem Iliya a renowned artist. I love his style, and it all makes me yearn to resume painting again. Kareem Iliya illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, Vogue, Nike, Tiffany & Co. among other major Fortune 500 brands. His artistic style portrays a beautiful and elegant water-colored images such as these:

I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do. This weekend I was grateful to getaway with hubby and it has left me with in a sense of euphoria. I am so glad we spent some much needed time together. I look forward to sharing some photos from our little getaway with you soon.
