Contentment alludes me.

There is so much to be grateful for all around us but we are sometimes blinded by our greed for more. I'm not as grateful as I should be for a number of reasons. Firstly I compare myself to others, fretting over how much it seems God is blessing everyone except me. Secondly, I look at what I don't have and I probably don't need, example being a bigger house, a slimmer body, the latest gadget or whatever it is I feel I need at any given time.
Well as I read Philippians 4:6-7(www.biblegateway.com) DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING, BUT IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND PETITION, WITH THANKSGIVING, PRESENT YOUR REQUEST TO GOD, WHICH TRANSCENDS ALL UNDERSTANDING, WILL GUARD YOUR HEART AND MINDS IN CHRIST JESUS.
I think its interesting that coming before God requires me to be grateful in my heart first before I present my request to Him. I definitely need to understand that God does bless me/us, according to what he thinks is best for me. When I think about my incredible husband that does not abuse me and the great father and provider he is to our children, I must be grateful. Also that we own our own home, no mortgage, there is reason to be content. God has brought me through many life-threatening circumstances also, like I almost lost my son in child birth, yet God answered my prayers, it is God who deserves the glory, the honor and our gratitude.
Psalm 37 calls me to trust in the Lord, delight in Him, commit my way to Him and DO NOT FRET. As I read the book of Job also, I'm amazed at Job's heart in his time of great misery and grief.
Job says "Shall we accept good from God and not trouble? The Bible says that Job did not sin even in what he said. This is this kind of heart I need to imitate. I hope to change my attitude for the better.

  2. Wow, very honest and open and actually I believe a part of the Christian walk. Contentment alludes me at times, and I'm just like you, reminded of Job and all he went through. God is not through with us yet, as long as we have breath. Great post, and lovely family picture, you have an awesome, beautiful family!
